Things to think about when planning a Station Teaching Lesson.

  • What concepts will each teacher teach?
  • How are the concepts related? Do they need to be?
  • Do students need to complete the stations in a specific order? If so how will that be managed?
  • What needs to be done for students to be successful and engaged in the independent station?
  • How will disruptions and/or interruptions from the independent group be handled?

Benefits

  • Students are working in small groups.
  • Instruction can be differentiated.
  • There are opportunities for independent practice.
  • Teachers are viewed as equal with each leading a group.

Things to Consider

  • The risk of creating set groups, especially based on ability.
  • Timing can be difficult, both teachers need to finish at the same time.
