Things to think about when planning a Team Teaching Lesson

  • What is each teachers role?
  • Are there times in the lesson where one teacher should be modeling the concept? Who is modeling and who is instructing?
  • How are you going to transition between teachers leading instruction?
  • What happens if you disagree with something the other teacher says during their instruction? Do you use it as a teachable moment for the kids or discuss it after class?

Benefits

  • Both teachers have equal power and are seen as the teacher by the students.
  • Both teachers points of view are shared.
  • Information is presented in different styles.
  • Collaboration is modeled.

Things to Consider

  • Takes a lot of skill and planning to become successful at this strategy.
  • Requires commitment to planning together and agreement on lesson content and flow.
  • Students may be confused if it is not implemented well.
